Tips & Tricks for the Fall

The first official day of fall is coming up! For those of you in the south, it might not feel that cool or chilly yet for the autumn season. However, in other areas of the country, the cooler season is settling in. Are you ready and prepared for the fall? Here are a few items and tips to be familiar with to help you coast through the fall season.

Create a Green Home

By a green home, we mean it literally! Fall and winter begin the process of most plants dying for the seasons until spring. So instead, bring your plants inside! Create a room just for plants or spread them throughout your house. Keeping plants inside your house is known to increase your mood and improves the environment throughout your home.

Cooking Eco-Friendly

Did you know you can save energy depending on what you're using to cook? Invest in that crockpot or slow cooker for the fall season! These take less energy than using your microwave or oven to cook homemade meals. It is soup season after all!

Invest in a Smart Thermostat

This helps you save money and energy in the long run. Smart thermostats will lower your temperature while you're not home so you aren't using as much electricity. Additionally, instead of cranking up the heat, why don't you enjoy the sweater weather? Toss on a sweater or blanket to warm yourself back up and save money by not running the heat as often.

Check Your Water Heater

Most water heaters are set automatically to 140 degrees. However, you can save money and prolong the life of your water heater by changing that to 120 degrees. Your hot showers won't feel any different since they don't rise to that temperature, and your dishwasher and washer will still clean and sanitize just as well!

Build a Fire

Fall is the perfect weather for building a fire outside! Create a small firepit in your backyard and enjoy the outdoors. The mild temperature of fall is great to gather outside, go camping, and hiking! Additionally, if you have a fireplace inside, you can use that as well.

Candles are a great way to set the mood and enjoy the indoor space. Light the fire and some natural candles to sit back and relax. Turning off the lights also allows you to save more energy in your home.
